Souss Gallery: covered and open to the swimming pool

This open gallery is dedicated to the Souss, the river which gave its name to the region and whose bed, most often dry, is located 3 kilometers north of the Jardin aux Etoiles. It measures 20 by three meters and is the entrance to the riad. It is an extremely pleasant place to stay there both day - to find freshness - and at night, as a shelter overlooking the illuminated swimming pool.

The walls are in raw tadelakt, lighter on the ceiling than on the walls. The lamps are terracotta lanterns from Sidi Bibi (south of Agadir). The gallery takes on its full dimension in the evening, when they are lit at the same time as the wall lights. The floor is covered with terracotta from Tamaloukt, a village in the Atlas near Taroudant .

In doum

The sofa, the armchairs and the coffee table are made of Atlas doum. The doum is a small palm tree whose stems are used by the shepherds to transform them into a kind of cord, a guarantee of strength. This expression of tradition adopts simple lines, so contemporary.

Reversible blue and gray cushions, handcrafted by weavers from Agadir , increase your comfort. At night, they are stored in the Salon Atlas , so as to be protected from birds, so numerous in the Jardin aux Etoiles. They thus complement in a beautiful harmony the cushions of the eight metal chairs.

Latest equipment added in the Souss gallery: a very large wooden chest decorated with Berber motifs can be used to store mattresses for deckchairs, cushions for chairs, sofas and armchairs. This chest is surmounted by a Berber mask in finely chiseled stone.

The front door of the riad

Souss The gallery is also the door of the villa. On the left, an embossed copper plaque includes the logo of your rental riad, as well as three terracotta decorated with palm trees, moons and stars, and where succulents grow.

The magnificent rectangular table with zelliges is sometimes installed in the gallery, sometimes around the swimming pool , depending on the season. The eight iron chairs are covered with double-sided cushions, blue and light gray.

The gallery also occasionally serves as a setting for exhibitions of artists from the Agadir region. Currently, Khalid Assallami , a young Berber who revisits Amazigh roots through stripping, if not abstraction, exhibits some of his creations, after having presented them at the French Institute of Agadir .
