A spectacular crocodile park opened at the end of May 2015 inagadir over nearly 40,000 square meters.Half an hour from our riad, in a neat setting, you can see some 350 of these saurians, landed from Djerba (Tunisia) and Civaux (France). NamedCroco Park, it is located on the edge of the Marrakech highway, at the entrance to the capital of Souss. The plant setting is of a very high standard. A true star of the Croco Parc in Agadir, the botanical garden includes 300 varieties from all over the world.

Crocodiles: solid barriers, well settled animals

The Croco Parc d'Agadir is the first park of this type in Morocco. The animals presented are Nile crocodiles. Born in breeding for two generations, the young saurians were mainly transported from Djerba to Agadir. The two regions have a very comparable climate.

The crocodiles that inhabit the Croco Parc arrived in the Souss at the age of three after being raised in the open air from an early age. The conditions are therefore met for them to adapt easily to their new habitat.

In this sense, by reviving the fascination aroused by the Crocodilus Niloticus which appeared on earth 200 million years ago, the Croco Parc in Agadir plays the same role of repopulation asSouss Massa animal park. Its mission as set by its creators is to raise public awareness by facilitating access to knowledge about reptiles, through educational panels and the permanent presence of guides.

A nursery open to the public was created on the occasion of the park's first anniversary.

In Morocco until the beginning of the 20th century

The Nile crocodile was present in Morocco until the beginning of the last century. They were found in particular in the basins bordering the Wadi Draâ, in the valley of the same name.

Unfortunately, it has been the victim of intensive hunting, being particularly sought after for its skin and flesh. Partially a man-eater, he also suffered from his reputation. It eventually disappeared from the Kingdom due to the scarcity of accessible water points.
